In the U.S. and around for a decent Android 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone but you don't want to deal with AT&T or T-Mobile? Well, from today, Google is providing you an alternative. Google started shipping Nexus phones more than two years ago, to give users a pure Google experience. And therefore, Google is continuing with this strategy and started today to sell the Galaxy Nexus (HSPA+) from a new Devices section in the Google Play web store; which allows users to quickly and easily purchase an unlocked version of the phone. The Galaxy Nexus by Samsung runs the latest Android software and comes with all Google mobile services, Google Play and new features like Android Beam and Google+ mobile hangouts.

First available in the U.S., the Galaxy Nexus costs US$ 399 and arrives at your door unlocked, without a carrier commitment or contract. It can be used on the GSM network of choice, including T-Mobile and AT&T. It also comes pre-installed with the Google Wallet app which allows to easily make purchases and redeem offers with a tap of the phone. And to give you a head-start, Google gives you a US$ 10 credit to get you started with your new mobile wallet.

From my recent trip to the U.S. I can say the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus worked quite well with both networks, AT&T and T-Mobile since it's one of the few smartphones featuring pentaband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA which makes it a virtual world traveler.

Cheers ~ Arne
