Seems the release date of the Motorola MPX200 Smartphone (see PPCW.Net's review here)comes closer.
Orange UK already lists it on their website - so far without a price or a definitive date:

The Motorola MPx200 uses Microsoft's Smartphone operating system, its colourful on-screen menus making it feel like a PC.

The MPx200 is great for Internet browsing; you can download games, sound files and even small video clips. You can also use your diary, contact lists, email and other essential business applications on the move.

Whether you need a serious business tool or just want some serious fun, the Motorola MPx200 will work for you.

According to David's excellent review this Smartphone is definitely worth to get, even if it still runs Smartphone 2002 only.

Cheers ~ Arne

Does the Mpx200 run WM 2002 or 2003? I've heard conflicting specs on this lately and it seems that the hardware vendors have stopped naming the version of the OS, just calling it "Microsoft's Smartphone operating system".

Technically, the device can run either OS. However, it is up to the carrier which OS they will release (and support). From what I've heard most carriers are going to be releasing with Smartphone 2002 with a future upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003. Definately a drawback, because a new device has an OS that is already out of date on it!

According to David's excellent review - and he already had his hands on the device - it's Smartphone 2002.

Sure this phone will be upgradeable to 2003, as every Smartphone or Pocket PC 2002; however it's always a business decision of the OEM if he will provide such updates...
