AVAILABILITY: Samsung updates the SGH-i600 Windows Mobile 6 ROM Upgrade Site

Following our earlier coverage that Samsung (Europe) started to roll-out first Windows Mobile 6 Standard ROM upgrades for its Samsung SGH-i600 Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone, the Korean mobile phone manufacture just updated its website. And first of all the good news: Samsung just added a couple of countries for which the i600 ROM upgrade will be available, namely Scandinavia (including Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland). The bad news is, that it seems that Samsung has pulled the plug for the previously available Dutch upgrade; it's not available anymore:

I have no information yet why the upgrade was removed but maybe Samsung found a "last-minute" bug which made the displacement necessary. Nevertheless, I'm sure it will appear soon again, together with the other upgrades.
Again, please don't try to "cross-upgrade" your device. I'm sure there are some good reasons why Samsung is going to offer country specific ROM upgrades for the i600.

Cheers ~ Arne

What I can't understand is why there is no Spanish flag sad
Aren't we considered Europe for Samsung yet or what? Just kidding smile
But please Samsung if you are reading this update Spanish handsets!!!

Good question? Is it available in Spain from others then Vodafone?
I think the i600 ROM upgrades Samsung are offering are for its vanilla devices only. If this version, but a carrier i600, is available in Spain only, it makes sense that the ROM upgrade isn't provided through Samsung but from Vodafone only.

Yes Arne it is also available as sim free device from a lot of retailers, like expansys.es or antzup.es

Hmmm... Then it doesn't makes sense. Was the only idea I had but hey, looks like the site isn't finished yet. I mean they've just added Scandinavia and in any case, you can either select the Portuguese or French ROM since you are in between... wink
In your case I would get nervous if Andorra is added but still no sign of Spain! wink Kidding... big_smile

You know, I don't really care if I have to install the Irani ROM, as long as I get WM6 ROM! big_smile
I already tried with the Nederlands one! But you know what happened sad

At July 31 the Dutch version was available and I have flashed six devices that day. I have not found any problem with it. The day after the Dutch flag was grey but it was still possible to download. On August 2 it wasn't possible to download anymore.

Hi Arne!
Since you have installed the WM6 Rom on the SGH-i600 already. Can you tell me by any chance, if now you are able to sync tasks over the air with Exchange?
I though this to be a major draw back for WM5 smartphones (compared to pocket PC WM5), only god knows why MS chose that differentiation.
Now my hopes are with the WM6 update...?
Thanks,
twips

Hi Twips! Not sure what you mean but Task syncing worked fine with Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphones already. You don't need Windows Mobile 6 Standard to get your Tasks synchronized OTA with Exchange.
Can you please explain which problem you are facing and which Exchange version (2000, 2003, 2007) with which enhancement (Mobile Information Server, SP2, etc.) you are running?

Hi Arne!
Well, strange thing is my tasks never get synched OTA in my SGH-i600. When I go to Active Sync Button on my mobile, press Menu, and Options it doesn't even list "tasks", only contacts, calendar and emails (which all sync perfectly).

Running Exchange 2003 SP1 (on SBS 2003 SP1).

Thanks

Twips, just checked it with my fellow Mobile Device MVP Mauricio again and he confirmed that you definitely need SP2 for Exchange 2003 to get Tasks synchronized with Windows Mobile. If you have SP2, it works with Windows Mobile 5.0 already.
According to Mauricio, the update isn't a big deal at all and takes a couple of minutes only.

Hope it's you Exchange server, and not a hosted solution or your corporate server where you have to convince the Admin to update?

That makes sense, we will update to SP2 anyway soon.

Thanks alot, Arne!

samsung from korea is just across the see from the philippines.
yet they dont seem interested to update for philippine units...imagine they are able to offer updates to europe which is halfway around the globe but not its neighbors?

hmmmmm....what the hell???

Relax; it's also not yet released in North Korea!
Seriously, who cares the neighborhood in the age of the Internet? The world became a village, so what's your message?
