Sonos users here? If so, you might be interested to hear that Sonos, maker of the wireless multi-room music systems for the home, today announced that the previously announced Sonos Controller for Android is now available for download as a free app on Android Market. Sonos Controller for Android transforms most Android smartphones into a wireless music controller for the award-winning Sonos Multi-Room Music System. It allows to access and play all the music from the Internet and the personal music library - throughout the home, wirelessly. It either plays the same song in every room of the house – perfectly synchronized - or mixes it and plays different songs in different rooms.

Also supported is the search for songs and stations by typing or speaking, thanks to the new Sonos music voice search feature.

The Sonos Controller for Android requires Android 2.1 or later. It joins the family of Sonos Controllers which includes free apps for iPhone and iPad, a dedicated touchscreen controller, the Sonos Controller 200, and free software for Mac or PC, which is included with every ZonePlayer. All controllers work together seamlessly.

I'll meet Sonos tomorrow and will hopefully learn more about it; stay tuned.

Cheers ~ Arne

No tablet support ?!

Posted by Arne Hess on 20.04.11 - 13:44:47

Dan, I'm just back from my meeting with Sonos and they confirmed that tablet is currently not supported. Rather than just porting the Android smartphone version to the tablet, Sonos prefers to optimize the user experience for tablets, like they did with the different iPhone and iPad versions before. The Android tablet version is coming (no date given yet) but in the meantime Sonos expects that most Android tablet users also have an Android smartphone which can be used in the meantime.
