T-Mobile introduced last week a new generation of cell phones with Microsoft Windows operating system: E-Mail, surf, take photos, listen to music and watch videos on the move.

Take pictures and send them as an MMS, enjoy music, surf the Internet, send and receive E-Mails: T-Mobile brings together the multimedia world of mobile communications in two innovative devices, the MDA compact and the new SDA music. Both devices are now available. The models make an impression with their markedly elegant design and a large, crystal-clear display. The Windows mobile operating system from Microsoft with its standard home-PC interface enables easy access to multimedia and office functions.

The MDA compact is pure lifestyle and offers something for every taste. T-Mobile customers can receive and send their E-Mails with their cell phone; even E-Mail attachments in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF can be displayed and conveniently edited using the large touch screen. Anyone who likes to participate in online auctions will not have to miss an offer with the MDA compact. Thanks to the integrated web browser, you can access Internet pages or PDA-optimized pages while on the move, for example from eBay. Users can take top-quality pictures and videos with the built-in, high-resolution camera (1.3 mega-pixel, digital 8X zoom). You can send the pictures right away via MMS or as an E-Mail attachment. You can also take and view photos and videos in landscape format - real digicam feeling. Even your ears will be delighted with the MDA compact. For example, MP3 songs can easily be played back using the integrated Windows Media Player. A stereo headset is included.

T-Mobile's SDA music is a real entertainer. Users will enjoy their personal favorite sounds as a video or music file - for example in MP3, WMA or MPEG and WMV- using the integrated Windows Media Player and the included stereo headset. The player can be started and operated easily using additional buttons (Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Reverse). There is a built-in VGA camera (VGA, Video Graphic Array) for video communication. The pictures and video clips you just took at a party can also be sent via MMS, for example to other party-goers. Current gaming highlights can also be easily played with the multimedia device. T-Mobile customers get a first insight into this new, multimedia world directly after buying the device. Demo versions of videos, games and small additional programs are already preinstalled on the 128MB mini-SD card included with the SDA music. Like the MDA compact, the SDA music device also enables E-Mail communication or access to the Internet while being on the move. Pocket Outlook is available for editing E-Mails or maintaining calendar and contact data.

The MDA compact and the SDA music have a Bluetooth, infrared and USB interface. The data (e.g. calendar, contacts) is synchronized with ActiveSync automatically. Files received on your cell phone or downloaded from your computer can not only be internally saved on both devices, but also on a memory card (accessory for MDA compact), which can be plugged into your cell phone.

In connection with a T-Mobile postpay contract and the Relax 100, the MDA compact costs EUR 199.95, and the SDA music EUR 79.95. Additionally, customers receive a multimedia budget of EUR 25 when booking a T-Mobile data option. This credit lets users test multimedia services, e.g. the latest soccer results via MMS News for three months without commitment. And anyone who also books the Data 2 option on top of the multimedia budget with an inclusive volume of two megabytes (MB) will not pay the Data 2 option price for the first three months. This corresponds to almost 600 short E-Mails per month. The offer is only valid until February 28, 2005.

In addition to the MDA compact and the SDA music devices, T-Mobile is offering other devices with the Microsoft Windows operating system - the MDA models II and III and the SDA. Since market launch two years ago, more than 150,000 MDAs have been sold. The device already has a market share of 40% in the German business customer market for PDA phones, making T-Mobile the market leader in this area. T-Mobile is already in third place with its MDA models in the whole PDA market.

If and when these devices becomes available in other T-Mobile markets isn't announced yet.

Cheers ~ Arne

[1] Jacek, I'm sure you know the answer anyway. As with all HTC devices - so far - I'm sure you can also change the ROM with the Magician aka MDA compact. "All" you need is an English MDA compact ROM which isn't available so far. As soon as it is available for public DL, I'm sure it can be tweaked for use on a German MDA compact.
