Taiwanese
HTC Corp. and UK-based The Carphone Warehouse today announced the availability
of a limited edition HTC Touch, designed by Ted Baker. The stylish purple
incarnation of HTC's successful touch screen phone will be available through all
785 of The Carphone Warehouse's stores from November 1st, and marks the
beginning of a national retail deal between the two companies.
However, the Ted Baker HTC Touch isn't based on HTC's Touch reference design but
based on O2 Germany's O2
Xda nova industrial design:

Named the Ted BakerNeedle, the handset is slim, compact and stylish and will be
a smart addition to The Carphone Warehouse Christmas product range.
The HTC
Touch was the first device to feature TouchFLO, the new underlying touch screen
technology developed by HTC. Consumers simply sweep their finger up the display
to launch an animated, three-dimensional interface comprising three screens with
the frequently used functions; contacts, media and applications.
Paul Ghent, Executive Director of HTC Europe commented, "The Touch has
been a great success for HTC since its launch in June 2007 selling more than
800,000 units across Europe and Asia. This new partnership with Ted Baker
makes the new one-off purple version available in time for Christmas. It
also marks the start of an ongoing distribution partnership with The
Carphone Warehouse which further establishes HTC brand presence on the high
street."
Graham Stapleton, Group Purchasing Director of The Carphone Warehouse
said, "HTC has been the manufacturer to watch for some time now and we're
seeing a surge in adoption of smart devices by our customers. Of these the
HTC Touch is an attractive and powerful example, given a new twist with the
great Ted Baker styling."
Leveraging the broad functionality of Windows Mobile 6 Professional, the Ted
Baker Needle includes Outlook Mobile, Office Mobile and the capabilities to run
thousands of third-party applications. Users can surf the web with Internet
Explorer , send and receive emails, chat and upload files to the internet.
The
Ted Baker Needle comes preloaded with a host of wallpapers, from flying ducks to
cuckoo clocks as well as a tailored start-up animation.
