Following the delayed launch of its free Twitter application for the Zune HD, Microsoft has now also launched the long-time promised Facebook client for the Zune platform, which is the GUI-base for Microsoft's next smartphone platform. Looking quite similar to Microsoft's Facebook application for Windows Mobile, the free Zune HD Facebook application allows users to see friends activates as well as commenting and liking friend updates and posting own status updates, setting the status to the song currently listened and sharing photos and links. Furthermore, users can see their own profile page, including wall, info, photos, videos as well as accessing the inbox to read and send messages.
As always, the Zune HD needs a WiFi connection (which can either be a home WiFi, public hotspot or a WWAN connection through a portable WiFi router).
Microsoft's Facebook app for Zune HD can be downloaded free of charge from the Zune Marketplace on the device or to the desktop to be installed through the Zune player software later.
UPDATE: As the Zune team noticed in its Twitter feed, the Facebook app is experiencing some issues accessing data. Microsoft is investigating and will provide an update as soon as possible.
UPDATE 2: Looks like the Zune team fixed the problem, even without releasing an updated version. At least I'm receiving now Status Updates as well as I was able to posting my own status updates and commenting on other status updates as well as I got the photos of my friends displayed.
Cheers ~ Arne
