V2R Vision To Realty today announces the availability for the public Beta of Caller2Picture for Smartphone

See who is calling you on your Windows Powered Smartphone

Today, Vision to Reality announced the public availability of its latest Beta release - Caller to Picture for Smartphone.

Caller2Picture for Smartphone adds more fun to Microsoft's Windows Powered Smartphone devices and increase the usability by adding pictures of the caller to the call notification window. While the standard Smartphone platform devices notifies incoming calls with the caller name, company and phone number (if available from the contacts database) only, Caller2Picture adds an additional image and ringtone of the contact to the information, displayed on the Smartphone screen.

The public Beta of Caller2Picture for Smartphones allows assigning one picture and one ringtone for per phone numbers.

Because of the enormous amount of requests from Smartphone owners, V2R decided to release a public Beta right now. Harald Nickol, Business Development Manager of V2R: “Since we have published the first release of Caller to Picture for Pocket PC Phone Edition, we got lots of positive feedback from users who asked for a Smartphone version too. This even increased during the past months, since the first Smartphone 2002 - the Orange SPV - is available in different markets.

Because of this, we've decided to upload it as a public Beta right now. Our intention is to finalize it during the next few weeks and every Smartphone user is invited to test it and tell us what to improve.”

Features:

The Public Beta of Caller2Picture allows assigning up to 5 pictures to 5 phone numbers.

These pictures appear instead of the original phone receiver image, if the Smartphone user gets a call from one of this 5 phone numbers.

The public Beta of Caller2Picture for Smartphone will work until 31. Mar. Already assigned contacts can be used with the final version too.

Right now, Caller2Picture is available in English only.

Supported Devices:

Caller2Picture for Smartphone will require an application uncertified Windows Powered Smartphone 2002 likes the Orange SPV or the Smart Amazing Phone. The Beta version isn't certified today and will therefore not work with application certified Smartphone 2002 devices.

Beta Forum:

To get as much user feedback as possible V2R asked me to host the Beta Forum which I'm willing to do for sure.

So if you wanted to test Caller2Picture on your Smartphone as well, download the Beta from the exclusive link below and report all bugs, comments and feedback to the comments section blow. V2R will track all your comments to make the best out of it.

Feature requests are also welcome but I'm not sure if they are able to include everything to version 1.

Cheers ~ Arne

To decertify our spv you will need to follow instructions as posted on sites such as www.modoco.com/smartphone

@All: Caller2Picture installs right now on application unlocked devices only!!! How to perform this, see gears site here:

http://www.coolsmartphone.com/app-cert.htm

After you've installed it on your Smartphone, turn it off/on normally (kind of softreset - the registry needs to be read new) and put all images (right now JPGs only, GIFs are not supported in this Beta) into IPSM -> Program Files -> V2R Caller2Picture -> Pictures.
Now your picture should appear if you give yourself a call. If no number is assigned to the incoming call, the standard phone receiver should appear!

@Gears: Have you switched off/on the device and are you using JPGs?
What appeas if you give you a call from an unassigned number?

It worked, but my picture (a 176*200 jpg originally designe for my SP background) appeared as a kind of mosaic: It was displayed 3 times on the top of the picture display area as very small pictures.
Is there a recommended size, or should any size be fine ?

A question concerning the final release : Will it be possible to store the pictures on the SD card ?

@Gears:

Sorry Arne - think I've been pressing my refresh button and resubmitting the same comment! It's working better now, although the jpg isn't being displayed in the preview, it's appearing in the file name (i'd installed it on the SD card and not on the phone itself)

Posted by Arne Hess on 11.03.03 - 00:00:00

@Frederic: Try a max size of W/H 112 x 105 with 24 BIT high color pictures. This seems to be the current limitation to use high color JPGs.
The size should work smaller as well!

Regarding the Storage Card: Yes, I think this will be part of the final release. This is also supported with the Phone Edition C2P version.

Posted by Arne Hess on 11.03.03 - 00:00:00

@Gears: No problem... Ah okay, right now I think it's designed to work with the phone storage (at least it should work with it ;-).
Don't know if they already tested it installed on the SD card. But a good point to mention that it should be installed in the phone memory while it is this early Beta.

Hello,
Impossible to make it run: I put a photo 80x60 into the picture folder.
I run the app, apply the new ring and photo to the contact, and there is a blank thing, but no photo.
Some questions:
the contact must be international format ie +33..... or national or exactly like it is stored into the phone ?

Thanks

@Leon_Citron: Have you switched off/on the phone? If nothing appears it looks like the new registry wasn't read...?
Also the phone number should be international with +CountyCode.

Posted by Leon_Citron on 11.03.03 - 00:00:00

Ok, it works but only with the "default.jpg" photo, impossible to see anything else...
Some ideas ?
