It took "a little bit longer" but finally, the long awaited SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and Smartphones can also purchased in the UK. So far, users outside the U.S. only had the option to test the 30 days trial version from the U.S. site but it was (virtually) impossible to buy it from any other locations. Now, UK users can also buy the Windows Mobile clients to enhance the use of the Slingbox.
SlingPlayer Mobile lets you watch your TV and all of its programming on Windows Mobile cell phones or PDAs. This means you can have worldly mobility.

Just like the desktop version, SlingPlayer Mobile is easy to use, with features accessible through an intuitive touch-screen or navigational interface. Intuition of this magnitude is enough to make a psychic salivate.

Watch full-screen video on mobile devices with rectangular displays (320x240 or 640x480 resolution) in "landscape" mode with rotation ability. SlingPlayer Mobile also allows you to control your programming just as you would on your regular TV through full menus and familiar icons.

You can create shortcuts to your favorite channels and remote control buttons. You can also customize different shortcuts for each device you hook up to your Slingbox, whether its a Sky, Virgin TV set-top box, Freeview (DVB-T) receiver, DVD player or any other device with on-screen guides or navigation. For devices with QWERTY keyboards, remote control functions are mapped to corresponding keys for quick one-click access.

Discover multiple ways to watch your Slingbox. Audio-only Mode comes in handy if you want to listen to the news or a sports game in a low-bandwidth environment. You can quickly switch from your DVR to your DVD or any other input device hooked up to Slingbox anytime. And you can even adjust video display size or aspect ratio.

SlingPlayer Mobile supports any type of Internet connection on your mobile device, including 3G cellular services such as UMTS and HSDPA, WiFi or USB or Bluetooth PC-based connections.

Sling Media now offers two SlingPlayer Mobile: one for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs and one for Windows Mobile-based Smartphones.

Each version costs 19.99 GBP (around 29 Euro) incl. VAT and no question - if you own a Slingbox it's worth. Just bought recently the SlingPlayer Mobile for Smartphone to use it with my i600 and UMTS/HSDPA which is pretty cool.
However, please keep in mind that the current SlingPlayer Mobile version is incompatible with Windows Mobile 6. If you already bought a Windows Mobile 6 smartphone, like the Orange SPV E650, better wait for the next release. In any case it's recommended to test the free trial version first!

Cheers ~ Arne
