BEING MOBILE: Keeping updated with Wireless

Normally when we hear the word wireless, we think Wi-Fi, well what I've been thinking of these past several weeks is more of Wi-Fi and WAN, basically the version available here in Asia and Europe which would be GSM/GPRS. If you've noticed my sudden absence, it is not that I've fallen into an endless pit nor did the earth swallow me alive, I've been quite busy with work, actually several jobs that I have found myself in. :-)

While I've been quite busy with my photography, I've been kept updated by my Pocket PC with the latest happenings and news in the mobile computing world. Although I've pretty much wanted to post my ideas and some news, the huge amount of work that I've found myself in jst wouldn't allow me to. In addition to this, I've been giving talks on Windows Mobile 2003 and its focus on wireless connectivity as well as using its multitasking abilities to do more with a single pocketable device. So all the time that I've been missing from PPCW.Net isn't really a loss.

Hopefully before the month ends, I will get to test the two Eten Pocket PC Phone Edition devices namely the P300 and the P700, also it would be good to mention that I had the opportunity to test one of the most affordable Wi-Fi CF cards that work pretty well with Windows Mobile 2003. I just love how Zero Config works.

Since I've been so busy that I don't have much time in front of my PC, I've been doing a lot of Remote Active Sync and file sharing using my Pocket PC to get things organized and it is such fun just knowing that the device you hold in your hand just has that much power.

So just hang in there for my review on one of the most affordable Windows Mobile 2003 compatible CF Wi-Fi cards.

Mabuhay! ~ Carlo

im about to buy one,yup its right its the smallest pocketpc phone w digital cam, though ohetrs may think the voyager would be the smallest windows phone with built in where confussion starts. the tanager is a smartphone, it uses windows phone edition and the ETEN  also uses pocketpc phone edition.hmm does this means tha voyager will also come up with a word exel in it.we'll see.

@REYMUN: It's a little bit different. While Microsoft Smartphones and Pocket PCs (Phone Edition) run both Windows CE as underlaying operating system, the overlaying "user interface" are different one on a Pocket PC and a Smartphone.

Pocket PCs are running a different UI then Smartphones which also means that some applications are not included into the Smartphone platform. Two of them are Word and Excel. While you can get Office viewers for the Smartphone there is nothing available today which lets you create Office documents.

The approach of both devices is a different:

Pocket PC Phone Edition: Data driven with voice support

Smartphone: Voice driven with enhanced data support

You have to keep this in mind by selecting your platform!
