DopplerMobile is a RSS reader and Podcast catcher for Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PCs and Smartphones.
Feeds can be added manually or by importing an OPML file. Interesting for NewsGator customers (like I'm one too) is the support to sync DoppleMobile with your NewsGator online account. After you have set up the NewsGator synchronization simply select NewsGator Sync from the menu any time you want to synchronize your feed subscriptions.
DopplerMobile currently does not sync read status of specific posts, only subscribed feeds. If you delete a feed from Doppler, NewsGator will not be notified during a sync and if you delete a feed from NewsGator currently the feed will not be deleted either from DopplerMobile. This will change in upcoming releases. Feeds you add in Doppler will end up in a specific folder in the NewsGator My Feeds section of your subscription.
Podcasts are indicated with a small headphone in front of a post the moment there is a podcast or an enclosure connected to it. In order to download the podcast either select "Download podcast" from the menu in the posts overview or open the post and then select 'Download podcast' from the menu. Doppler will start downloading the podcast and it will save it on your device.
Last but not least DopplerMobile allows you to connect to your personal weblog so you can post messages and upload images right out of DoppleMobile. Right now DopplerMobile supports the MetaWebLog API and the Blogger API.
DopplerMobile is currently available as a public Beta only and supports Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2003 devices and Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC. and Smartphones. It requires a functional Internet connection since it downloads feeds real-time.
However, the most important is, that DopplerMobile requires the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 which is not pre-installed on current Windows Mobile devices but needs to be installed separately.
Today, DopplerMobile only supports RSS feeds, ATOM support might be added in the future.
The current Beta is available free of charge from DopplerRadio. I will definitely give it a try, especially because of the NewsGator synchronization feature which would be handy since NewsGator is the central place for my RSS feeds.
Cheers ~ Arne
