Within the next weeks, Toshiba wants to introduce its 5 GB Bluetooth enabled hard disk to the Japanese market. The portable disk with Bluetooth interface should be sold as "Hopbit" for for around 49.800 Yen (around 470 Euro). The Hopbit should works with PDAs like Bluetooth enabled Pocket PCs as well as with mobile phones.
The size is 11 x 7 x 2.2 centimeters and weights 180 gram. Hopbit is transportable with a belt-bag at the body and is expected to work in a range of maximally ten meters. According to Toshiba the data rate for MP3-Streaming and MPEG4-Videos with maximally 15 pictures per second is enough with a resolution of 320 times 240 pixels.
The battery of the Hopbit is expected with approximately 200 hours in stand-by mode and in continuous operation with maximally six hours. Also included is a USB 1.1 interface.
The hard disk will be launched in Japan first and depending on its success there, Toshiba will think about releasing it in Europe and the US as well.
