Still not the expected Android 2.2 upgrade for the Motorola Milestone, Motorola Europe has just announced the release of an updated Android 2.1 Milestone build (MR2.5). This update provides improvements to the phone's performance which is said to be available to all European Motorola Milestone users. After downloading and installing the update, the Milestone should have improved stability which should prevents the phone from random power cycling (turning off and on) and minimizes force closes in certain applications. Furthermore the update contains alarm improvements which resolves issues with alarm functionality, improved music player functionality including audio quality enhancements.
The PIN lock improvements allows users more flexibility in setting the PIN lock timer when using Exchange E-Mail and the proximity sensor enhancement is said to provides more accurate proximity sensing during phone calls. Last but not least, the Flight Mode enhancement ensures the phone service is restored after leaving airplane mode while the "My Location" improvements resolves the issue of Google Maps failing to find "My Location" when "Use Wireless Network" is enabled without using GPS.
Motorola's firmware update is said to be available now as an over the air (OTA) download or using Motorola's PC update tool which is available from Motorola's website.
UPDATE: On Facebook, Motorola Europe just announced: "Apologies we've pulled the update posts down as a technical glitch has momentarily halted it going live. Should be resolved very shortly and we'll post again once the update is available." And indeed, the update is yet neither available OTA nor as a PC download from Motorola's website. Stay tuned for further information.
UPDATE 2: Even worse, Motorola Europe has now posted the following information on Facebook: Ok, so here's the deal: apologies for the earlier update, some eager people jumped the gun. We confirm FOTA update for Greece is available now for the latest Milestone software enhancements and MSU will follow in the future. Poland, Netherlands & other European countries will also roll out in the future and we will update when these are ready. Update & install details available on the Discussion tab. At least we know now what the next update is expected to fix. (Updated from my Motorola Milestone ;-)
Cheers ~ Arne
