CANCELED: HTC confirms no Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade for the HTC Desire

The HTC Desire, once HTC's flagship smartphone isn't getting any Android 2.3/Gingerbred-love anymore, this was confirmed today by HTC. While the recently launched HTC Sensation got all the latest and greatest bits and bytes, HTC said today on its US Facebook fan page that its engineering teams have been working hard for the past few months to find a way to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire - for sure without compromising the HTC Sense experience users come to expect from HTC phones. However, now HTC had to confirm that they've been forced to accept that there isn't enough memory which allows them to bring Gingerbread and keep HTC Sense 2.0 on the HTC Desire.

As you can expect, the Facebook comments are already flooding by frustrated users which can't accept HTC's position. For instance is user "János Wild" mentioning that the HTC Desire comes with 576 MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM while the newer HTC Wildfire S has 512 MB of RAM and ROM only, but running Android 2.3/Gingerbread as well as HTC Sense 2.0 (see our review here).

That's indeed an interesting aspect which makes HTC's statement a sort of implausible.

Cheers ~ Arne
