CANCELED: T-Mobile US won't release the Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade

Some time ago I've reported here on PPCW.Net about the Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade which was announced for the US version of the MDA.
However, after it was postponed it seems now that T-Mobile US completely canceled it. At least that's the response "robinton" got from T-Mobile and posted in the PPCW.Net Forum:

Dear Rxxxxxx Hxxxxxx,

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile.  We do apologize for the delay in our specific answer regarding the 2003 Pocket PC upgrade.  At this time, we have received word from Microsoft and unfortunately, we will not be releasing the 2003 Pocket PC upgrade. We do regret any inconvenience that this may cause you. If you have any other comments, questions, or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you for choosing T-Mobile.

That's bad news at all because it seems that none of the carrier who released the first HTC Phone Edition (O2's xda, T-Mobile MDA, T-Mobiles Phone Edition) is going to provide an upgrade from Pocket PC Phone Edition 2002 to Windows Mobile 2003. :-(

Cheers ~ Arne

T-Mobile was the first carrier to deliver the Microsoft Pocket PC Phone Edition and is committed to the support of this product.  We will be providing the 2003 upgrade to our customers.

The standard Pocket PC 2003 version, used by many Pocket PC PDA's, doesn't include the needed software and hardware to operate as a phone. The additional time need for integration and testing ensures the highest level of customer satisfaction.

Good news.

What I'd *really* like is a little hint on T-Mobile USA's future for Pocket PC Phone - Are we going to be able to get an XDA II soon? or something? Can you give us a hint?

Thank you for the info re: the WM 2003 upgrade.  Can you please provide some timing as to when we can expect to see the T-Mobile MDA II WM 2003 Pocket PC Phone Edition sold in the U.S.?

Also, I am currently using an unlocked, sim-free O2 XDA II with my T-Mobile sim card.  The phone function works great, but I am having trouble configuring the GPRS function to pick up the T-Mobile VPN Netork.  When I called T-Mobile Level 2 tech support, they said that they had no idea what to tell me.  Can you please provide me with some guidance?

Any help you could provide me with would be very much appreciated.  Thanks. J.

At this time T-Mobile USA has no plans to offer the 02 XDA II product. This product is being offered in Europe through the DT T-Mobile subsidiary in that area.

As this product is not being offered and has not been through our testing and certification process here in the states, our care and support organization has no information. You are living on the leading edge.... Maybe something you don't want to here but in the future I'd wait until the device is announced and available through an authorized T-Mobile partner/reseller/channel.

What is/was the URL for the t-mobile US page that mentioned the upgrade in the first place - there is no address in the articles.

Chris Archey, please stick to the facts;  "T-Mobile was the first carrier to deliver the Microsoft Pocket PC Phone Edition ...". It was o2 who did this first with the xda.

My apologies, the first US carrier. I stand corrected.

Thank you Chris for the information.  Can you give us a rough idea of when the 2003 upgrade might be available (beta and final release)?
