CANCELLED: NEC to pull out from the PDA market

Set back by weak sales, NEC apparently has decided to pull the plug from its PDA program in Japan. The decision may be a temporary one only but NEC made no mention as to when it will return to the PDA market. On the otherhand, NEC’s subsidiary, NEC Computer International, will continue managing the company’s PDA business in export markets and will continue selling existing PDA models like the MobilePro 200E, MobilePro 300E and MobilePro P300.

Sources said that Taiwan’s Asustek Computer has already stopped producing the MobilePro P300 for NEC. Mitac International, on the other hand, is still supplying the MobilePro 200E and MobilePro 300E for markets outside Japan.
