Happy birthday Gmail which becomes one year today. To celebrate this, Google is giving its freemail service some new and enhanced features:

Storage is an important part of email, but that doesn't mean you should have to worry about it. To celebrate our one-year birthday, we're giving everyone one more gigabyte. But why stop the party there? Our plan is to continue growing your storage beyond 2GBs by giving you more space as we are able. We know that email will only become more important in people's lives, and we want Gmail to keep up with our users and their needs. From Gmail, you can expect more.

We're not in the plains anymore
Fonts, bullets and highlighting, oh my! Gmail now offers rich text formatting. And over 60 colors of the rainbow. Discover a land of more than just black and white.

While the richt text feature is already available for some days, right now Gmail is in the progress of upgrading the storage which is indicated by a counter on Gmail's frontpage which shows the status of current available storage space for all Gmail users.

So depending on when you will login to your Gmail account you will notice an always increased storage space until you reached the 2048 MB volume:

However, Gmail is still in "Beta" (how long can a Beta take?) and available by invitation only. I still have left some invitations, so if you need one please let me know.

Cheers ~ Arne
