Microsoft
just made clear how compatible its
recently announced and upcoming Windows Marketplace, Themes and apps will
be. According to these information, Windows Marketplace will come to Windows
Mobile 6.5 smartphones only but it was said that there isn't a technical reason
to limit the Marketplace to 6.5 only. So while Windows Mobile 6.1 phones would
be, most likely, able to
run Windows Marketplace as well, it's not yet planned to release the Marketplace
application as a stand-alone download. Same for the new Windows Phones which
will come to Windows Mobile 6.1 only as well while the upcoming Facebook
application will support Windows Mobile 6.1 (and higher) Standard and
Professional smartphones.

As a matter of fact it means that Marketplace application will, most likely,
not offered through the
recently launched (and still available) Marketplace website. As for the
Themes it makes sense that these are available for Windows Mobile 6.5 only since
the menu structure for Windows Mobile 6.5 changed.
