As I already wrote yesterday ("according to PPCW.Net sources in Taiwan it's expected to be released around the 15th this month") the Mitac Mio clamshell Smartphone 2002 will be released next week (17. July) in Taiwan and Hong Kong - but and this might be the most important (again according to PPCW.Net information) with Traditional and Simplified Chinese UI only (so beside Taiwan and Hong Kong are great locations and always worth to visit, no reason to fly to there to pick it up until your Chinese isn't fluent enough ;-))

According to DigiTimes, the handset retail price is NT$16,800/HK$3,880 (about US$489/US$497). Initial shipments to Taiwan and Hong Kong are 500 and 1,500 units, which isn't that much... :?:

However, the same device is already on sale in China as CECT Mio 8380 since June 30. According to the company, shipments will reach 20,000 units as of the end of July.

Cheers ~ Arne

"with Traditional and Simplified Chinese UI only"

Two guys who already bought the Mio 8380 from CECT said that the phone has Chinese and perfect English langage inside. See modaco forum for more info :-).

Hehehe... :-) I can only repeat what my Taiwanese sources told me.

Might there be a difference between the CECT and the Mio version?
