already know that Mozilla's Fennec, the mobile version of Firefox,
is coming to Windows Mobile but now, Mozilla's CEO John Lilly also confirmed
that an Android version is finally planned as well. During an
interview with Om Malik, Lilly confirmed that Mozilla "will release
Firefox for Windows Mobile and then Android". When asked why it took so long
for Mozilla to adopt Android, Jay Sullivan, Vice President of Mobile for Mozilla
said "Until recently, Android was Java, but they released Android NDK which
uses C/C++ and that is what we program in, so we are now looking at developing
Firefox for Android".
And Sullivan added that "Mozilla Firefox will be the first mobile browser
to support add-ons" continuing tat "we have been spending a lot of time
processors, that has taken some time".
Neither Lilly nor Sullivan has given a time-frame yet but a (first) release
shouldn't be expected before 2010.
