Through its Twitter account, O2 Germany today announced that the German carrier will also offer the GSM/UMTS version of Palm's latest webOS smartphones - the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus. This is not a surprise at all since Telefónica, O2 and Palm signed a long-term partnership deal and therefore - even if yet not announced - it can also expected that the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus will also come to Spain, Ireland and the UK. The GSM/UMTS smartphones, recently approved by the Global Certification Forum, are expected to be identical to the AT&T versions except that the European Palm smartphones support different bands.

The major difference between the non-Plus and Plus versions is the memory where Plus versions feature more memory but also a slightly different design.

According to O2 Germany, the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus will be available in Germany from April 28 but O2 Germany will also continue to offer and maintain the Palm Pre. Prices weren't announced today.

UPDATE: On its German website, Palm has also announced that the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus are coming to Vodafone Germany as well. So it looks like the exclusivity for O2 Germany has ended with the launch of the two new Palm Plus webOS smartphones.
There are yet no further announcements from Palm in terms of planned UK or Spain launches.

Cheers ~ Arne
