With the introduction of Windows Phone 7 Series, Microsoft also introduced a new design-language Microsoft calls Metro. According to Microsoft definition, Metro stands for a modern and clean design which is fast and in motion. It's about content and typography and it's entirely authentic. And now you can give your Windows Mobile smartphone a kind of Metro touch as well. Fellow Windows Mobile enthusiast and MVP Alex Januschewsky from has created a set of icons which can be used with Windows Mobile smartphones. It's a set pf 29 PNG graphics which can be used to replace the original Windows Mobile icons.

Alex mentions that you can either use JWMD Icon Changer for Windows Mobile 6.5 or Change Start Menu Icons (CSMI), which are both available free of charge, to change the icons. With these two programs you can assign one of the new Metro icons to any of your installed applications:

While the set of available icons is yet not complete, Alex will add further icons and you can even ask for new icons, if you need something totally different.
Metro Icons for Windows Mobile is available free of charge from
