When Microsoft announced Windows Phone 8 and said that Windows Phone 7 devices won't be updateable to v8, it also said that it will take care about the future support of Windows Phone 7.8. Well, seems the clocks ran faster in Redmond than a 24 month contract, which locked many Windows Phone 7 users into a minimum duration. As Skype said today, Microsoft has the best platforms to enable Skype to build excellent experiences for their users. However, it seems that Windows Phone 7 isn't the best platform anymore. While the Windows Phone 8 platform is gaining good momentum in the marketplace, Skype announced that it's not planning to release further updates to Skype for Windows Phone 7.
The good news is, that the Windows Phone 7 app will remain available to download in the Windows Phone Marktplace, so users can still keep it using the core Skype experiences, such as Chat, Voice and Video Calls. But that's it. Whatever Skype plans next, Windows Phone 7 won't benefit from it anymore.
