As Nokia announced today on its "Conversations by Nokia" blog, by the end of this week, new versions of HERE Drive, HERE Drive+ and HERE Transit will be available for download for everyone with a Windows Phone 8. Both versions of HERE Drive, HERE Drive and Here Drive+ will receive an updated and more intuitive user interface as well as significant improvements under the hood. One of the major feature enhancements are the traffic overview conditions in and around your area and "My Commute", which shows you at a glance the estimated travel time among the roads you drive daily, letting you know if you need to head out early or have extra time before you leave.

My Commute informs you of the best route and the expected arrival time at a glance on the Live Tile. When you're driving, My Commute continues to monitor your route and notifies you of any unexpected delays that might lie ahead and suggest alternative routes. You can even customize My Commute by setting up multiple commutes. My Commute is currently available in 26 countries.

The user interface and user experience are inextricably linked. This is why Nokia has significantly redesigned the user experience of HERE Transit by taking advantage of the Windows Phone interface. Nokia said (really, they wrote it) it recognized how important software design is because people expect well-designed products, which are both aesthetically appealing and extremely intuitive. Therefore, Nokia observed how its testers behave with their products and Nokia better understood when some features are either not found or not used.

While HERE is preinstalled on all Nokia Lumia phones, the updated versions of HERE Drive+, HERE Transit and HERE Maps will also be available for all Windows Phone 8 smartphones. Nokia HERE customers, using HERE Drive will be able to upgrade to a global navigation license later this week. Pricing and regional availability are explained in the overview bellow.

Doesn't matter if Nokia is your kind of Windows Phone brand or not, one thing is clear, it's doing a fantastic job to add further value to the Windows Phone platform. Only with Nokia's services and enhancements, Microsoft will be able to compete with Google and Apple since Microsoft is still too weak on the services side while Nokia learned it from the ground in more than 20 years GSM development.

Cheers ~ Arne
