ENHANCED: Pebble announces full iOS Notification integration - Announces SDK 2.0 for even better 3rd Party Apps [UPDATE]

Prebble, the independent smartwatch pioneer which successfully launched it's Pebble smartwatch earlier this year thanks to crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, just announced that it has archived a deeper iOS integration. Furthermore it unveiled some statistics which are a result of Pebble's close work with developers worldwide; which helped create thousands of apps for Pebble customers on both - iOS and Android. This work resulted in 190,000 worldwide shipped Pebbles, 2 million downloaded apps and faces, 2,200 apps and faces on mypebblefaces.com, 80,000 created watchfaces on watchface-generator.de and 50+ companion apps available on the iTunes and Google Play with 10,000+ registered developers.

However, Pebble also continued its own development and just announced a new update that's going to make Pebble even more useful; at least for iOS 7 users. Pebble is now fully integrated with iOS 7 and works seamlessly with Apple's Notification Center. This means that any notification enabled in Notification Center will appear on the Pebble; and this includes notifications beyond calls, texts and E-Mails, such as Calendar, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn, Flickr, Dropbox, WhatsApp, Flipboard and more. On top of this, Pebble will support Bluetooth 4.0 LE which should increase the battery time dramatically!

Second, and now it becomes also interesting for Android users, Pebble is launching the Pebble SDK 2.0, which makes it even easier for developers to build awesome Pebble apps. SDK 2.0 opens up an entire universe of rich new watch apps thanks to four new APIs: Javascript, Accelerometer, Data Logging and Persistent Storage. These API allow developers to make Pebble apps that interface directly with the web (realtime weather, transit info, location checkin), access the accelerometer (health/fitness monitoring and gesture-based remote control), log data when disconnected from the phone (health/fitness tracking), and store info on the watch (high scores for games, settings). While Pebble is just starting to roll out SDK 2.0, it told the::unwired that it already has some amazing watch apps in the works from partners like iControl, Foursquare, GoPro and Yelp.

While the Pebble SDK 2.0 and the APIs will also available for Android developers, Pebble hasn't made a specific Android announcement yet nor have we heard anything about a possibly upcoming support of Windows Phone 8.

UPDATE: The iOS 7 notifications update is now available in the iTunes Store. (12.11.2013)

Cheers ~ Arne
