For some weeks, I'm now testing some music streaming services and the latest one which just started in Germany has announced an Android app update today. While Rdio was available for Android for quite a while the new app offers intuitive navigation with one-click access to features previously available on Rdio for Android, along with several new enhancements and key features including collection, playlists, new releases, top charts, recommendations and support for Android 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich's new remote control client which means that if the phone is locked, you can tap the power button and control music from the lock screen; including seeing the artist's and track name as well as being able to skip forward and back, pause a song and getting the album art.
Other new features of the updated Android app include a streamlined top-level navigation, new releases which allows to listen to new albums and singles on the day they are released, and access new albums released up to two weeks prior, top charts, recommendations, enhanced search and synchronizing the collection and playlist views. Unfortunately, HTC's Beats Audio enhancement is not yet part of the features.
Features of the previous version including activity, collection, heavy rotation, playlists, listening history, syncing for offline access, and a variety of settings to control syncing and streaming on Wi-Fi or 3G.
The new Rdio for Android is available as a free 7.61 MB download from the Android Market in the US, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Australia and New Zealand. An "Rdio Unlimited" subscription is required to access Rdio on mobile devices; new users can sign up directly through the app for a free 7-day trial. After, the "Rdio Unlimited" service costs US$ 9.99/month and allows unlimited web and mobile streaming on all available devices, as well as wireless synchronization to listen offline. "Rdio Web", which is available for US$ 4.99/month, only allows unlimited web streaming and access through Mac/Windows desktop apps.
Cheers ~ Arne
