It was a long way for Facebook and Twitter to add push notifications to its Windows Phone apps and while Facebook was a "little bit" faster, Twitter has also finally added the missing Toast notifications to its latest Windows Phone update. Version 1.5, which is now available from Microsoft's Windows Phone Marketplace, finally allows to turn on Toast messages and even allows to customize the notifications. It's featuring mentions which can be turned on or off with the choice of whether the mention has come from "people you follow" or "from anyone". Same applies to favorite tweets, retweets, direct messages and even if someone new follows.
While Twitter has finally enabled Toast notifications, Live Tiles are still not supported which means there's no info straight on the Start screen how many new interactions you might have received. But anyway, at least Toasts are working now which is a big step forward.
And while we are talking about Windows Phone's notification system, Microsoft just confirmed us that it has no plans to do any changes in Windows Phone 8. This means that notifications will come in future also from the server instead of being generated on the device.
