When I was at the Munich airport this week to got my flight to London, I stumbled across this plate which got my attention - for sure: "Microsoft Windows Mobile Technical Summit for Operators (this way)".
For sure, neither the::unwired nor the media was invited (since this kind of partner events are always NDA events, not for a public audience) but it's not a secret at all, that Microsoft holds such an event at least once per year and in the past, it was either before or after the 3GSM Congress in Cannes. However, this year, it wasn't in Barcelona (the new location of the 3GSM Congress) but in Munich at the airport.
As far as I know, Microsoft invites their partners (in this case the mobile operators) to these kind of summits to provide them an overview about the current status, what's coming next and to get a feedback how to work together better, etc. Pretty similar to what Microsoft provides their MVPs (Most Valuable Professionals) during the MVP summit, which also happens once a year. And what I've heard from different resources, the summit was fully booked with attendees from all over the world (from America to New Zealand). Good to know, Microsoft is treating the their cooperation with carriers that serious and for sure Windows Mobile is still new, even for operators and it offers way more possibilities than a standard mobile phone (OS). Therefore such summits are always helpful for both parties to get a better understanding of each business perspectives.
