Sling Media has launched the Slingbox in the UK and Sweden some time ago already but now it comes to more countries across Europe, including Germany. Founded in 2004, Sling Media, Inc. invented a new product category called place-shift and Sling Media is a different kind of consumer electronics company - one that's working to demystify convergence technologies and to create empowering experiences for the digital media consumer. The focus of Sling Media is to embrace - not replace - existing products and standards by enhancing them with hardware and software that make divergent technologies compatible and greatly improve the consumer experience. Because, after all, can't we all just get along?!

Sling Media's Emmy award-winning Slingbox has literally transformed the way we are able to watch TV. The Slingbox turns any Internet-connected PC or laptop, Mac, or smartphone (incl. support for Windows Mobile and Symbian) into your home television. That means you can watch TV virtually anywhere in the world.

Sling Media's innovative SlingPlayer software connects users on all types of computing platforms to their Slingbox which then gives them complete control over their living room TV. The Slingbox gives customers the ability to control any Audio/Video device including analog cable, a digital cable box, satellite receiver, digital video recorder (DVR) a DVD player or even a still video camera. The SlingPlayer applications are fully compatible with all Slingboxes sold today.

The third generation of the Slingboxes, the Slingbox PRO and SOLO, which was launched in September 2007, is now coming to Europe as well which also includes Germany. Key elements of the Slingbox SOLO (see our previous review here) are integrated support for component video, pass-through or "looping" outputs and refreshed design. The Slingbox SOLO is, more or less a feature enhanced refresh of the Slinbox AV which also came, like the Slingbox SOLO without an inbuilt tuner but requires either a set-top or any other A/V source from an input device.
The Slingbox PRO (see our previous review here) allows you to watch and control up to three standard definition and one high definition video device anywhere you go. Using an Internet connected computer or mobile device, you can watch and control your home TV, DVR, basic cable, digital cable box or satellite receiver around town or around the globe by also featuring a DVB-T tuner.

According to sources, the Slingbox SOLO will cost in Germany 200 Euro while the Slingbox PRO will be available for 300 Euro. While an exact launch wasn't announced yet, Sling Media already enhanced its local websites, for instance the German Sling Media website is already up and running.

Cheers ~ Arne
