Good one, you might have heard about the floods part of Germany are currently facing? Now, Vodafone Germany shows responsibility and offers free mobile WiFi routers and USB sticks as well as 5 GB mobile data to help the victims of the floods. As Vodafone wrote today in its company blog, in many Vodafone shops in the flooded areas it will give away mobile WiFi routers and USB sticks with SIM cards which are good for mobile Internet access for 30 days. Since a lot of infrastructure is destroyed, communication is currently running through wireless networks, including the coordination of volunteers who want to help in the dyke insurance or scavenging work; which is/was mostly coordinated via Twitter and Facebook.
Now, affected residents of the flooded areas will also get access to the Internet again, thanks to Vodafone's generous offer. To receive one of the Vodafone WebSessions packages with SIM and a WiFi router or USB stick, affected residents have to simply present an official identification. Initially, a total of 1000 USB sticks and mobile wireless routers are shipped. A list with the addresses of Vodafone shops that offer these special flood aid can be found on Vodafone's website! Kudos to Vodafone for this quick and easy help!
One friendly request from my side: Don't ask for such a package if you don't need it, even if you are living in the affected areas, but leave it for your neighbors who really need it!
Cheers ~ Arne
