No, it's not the official and final version of Opera 8.5 Mobile for Pocket PC which recently made its way into the Internet but Opera's special version of Opera 8.5 which was developed exclusively for the Sharp W-ZERO3 Pocket PC which was announced late last year.
Nevertheless, the Sharp W-ZERO3 is "the device featuring the final version of Opera 8.5 for PPC which will be available in Japan in mid-January. And yes, that is also when we will have the public, downloadable version available from opera.com!" as Eskil Sivertsen, PR Manager at Opera previously posted in his Blog.
Over the weekend, I got a couple of screenshots sent in how Opera 8.5 for Pocket PC will most probably look and it looks impressive. If it comes close to the Smartphone version, I'm sure many (if not even more) Pocket PC users will switch from the built-in Internet Explorer Mobile to Opera 8.50 for Pocket PC. Also keep in mind, that the screenshots bellow are not from Opera Mini, the Java version of Opera, but the dedicated Windows Mobile 5.0 Opera 8.50:
As you can see above at the last screenshot, the browser identifies itself as "Sharp/WS003SH Opera 8.50" browser. So the version, which is floating around the internet right now, is neither a licensed preview nor a trial version but extracted from the Sharp W-ZERO3. But don't worry, the official version should be released soon and what I've seen from the screenshots above, it looks promising, really promising - don't you think too?
By the way, have you noticed that there is no horizontal scroll-bar but everything fits into the screen-width?
Please note, like (most of) you also I don't have Opera 8.50 on my Pocket PC yet but can hardly await the official launch of the Pocket PC version mid-January. Therefore I can not answer your questions about Opera 8.50 for Pocket PC yet but maybe "Mr Anonymous" who thankfully sent me the screenshots can answer it?
Cheers ~ Arne
