FOLLOWER: Grundig mobile to release the HTC Universal in Europe as GR980

Grundig mobile (the brand name of Grupo Vitelcom, a Spanish ODM) has revealed that, it will release the well known HTC Universal (better known as i-mate JasJar, T-Mobile MDA Pro or O2 Xda Exec) during Q1 next year.
Nothing else except the specifications are known today (neither the price nor the countries where the GR980 can be expected) but Vitelcom has a strong and old partnership with Spanish Telefonica Moviles and therefore there are some fair chances to see it released in Spain also.

Which makes me certain about such a launch as well, is the branding on one of the web photos. While the (left) animated image just shows the device, the right image clearly shows the Moviles logo left from the screen as well as the Today skin indicates the Moviles "M":

Since Telefonica Moviles is active in Spain, Czech and - most important - South America - these are areas where the GR980 could be launched potentially (not to speak about O2, Telefonica's newest share which has introduced the O2 Xda Exec in UK already).

Looks like there is a new ODM to have on the watch list also? Any of my Spanish readers have heard any rumors about a possible HTC Universal launch in Spain? Additionally, German teltarif.de is speculating that this device will be released in Germany also.

Cheers ~ Arne

Interesting! BTW, this ms mobile guy has a weak copy of your posting but without your interesting, always well researched background information.

Hope it will really make it to Spain soon!

regarding the other comment: msmobiles.com posting about Grundig was not based on theunwired.net site but on feedback from Sven, and it has been just updated to explain that while grundig mobile brand is owned (licensed) by Spanish company the grundig itself is now owned by Turkish and British companies.

@Poster No.1: Thanks for the referrer but it's a free net and everybody can post everything. If Mobile Phone Fan 2 says he didn't got it from here but from Sven, we must believe him (maybe Sven got it from here but he forgot to mention it wink). Anyway, I would kindly ask you not to fake your name. Anonymous postings are OK and that's why I allow to post anonymously/without registration but please be fair and either use nicknames or *your* real name. I can not imagine, that your name is "Jaczek" and your E-Mail has the msmobiles domain! big_smile

Hi all,

Today I had a meeting with Telefonica moviles (bussiness account) and they didn´t say a word about it.

I´ll try to research more on it, though.

Hehehe... :-) Interesting! Please push them harder and let us know as soon as you have heard more. The Moviles logo on the image can not be an accident! wink

The Grundig GR980 is in the lastest Telefonica Movistar catalogue which I received in the mail about a month ago. I can send you a scan of the page if you let me know where to send it.
