Recently we reported the disappointing news about the effects of SARS in Asia and its economy. One of the probable victims was the MiTAC Mio 8380 which was not launched due to the virus outbreak which also caused a number of Trade Exhibits to be cancelled.

A change of tide - MiTAC International, a Taiwan-based Pocket PC and smartphone maker, recently inked a deal with Chinese Electronics Corporation Telecom (CECT) and will begin shipping its Mio 8380 Smartphones to CECT in June.

According to a MiTAC spokesperson, CECT will be responsible in marketing the co-branded Smartphones in China. The MiTAC Mio 8380 will be dubbed the CECT Mio 8380 and will be the world's first Chinese-language Smartphone.

The MiTAC Mio 8380 features a clamshell design and is powered by Intel’s latest PXA262 processor, which places a 200MHz Intel XScale processor directly on top of 32MB of flash memory in a single package. The smartphone also comes equipped with a built-in digital still camera (DSC).
