Mapopolis.Com, Inc. announced last week the immediate availability of maps for Western European countries on both the Palm OS and Pocket PC platforms. The new navigation product provides "heads-up" active route guidance on Pocket PC handhelds and turn-by-turn directions on Palm OS Handhelds.
The new software, available immediately from www.mapopolis.com ($34.95-$89.95), provides functionality similar to "in-car" systems for a fraction of the price. Unlike carmounted navigation systems, the PDA-based system is portable and can be moved from vehicle to vehicle.
"It really adds a whole new dimension to our product line", said Mapopolis Vice President, Jeremy Straub, "Now Mapopolis is the one-stop-shop for Pocket PC and Palm Navigation in both North America and Europe, there really isn't anyone else who can offer you the same depth of functionality and breath of coverage that we now do."
Data for the new products comes from Navigation Technologies, the same provider that is used by almost all car-mounted navigation systems in the US and Europe. NavTech data is regarded by experts as the most accurate commercially available data. The software, in addition to being available for consumer purchase, is also being licensed by EMTAC for use, world-wide, in the EMTAC Bluetooth GPS Bundle for Palm OS. Steve Emery from Transplant Computing who represents EMTAC in the United States commented that "EMTAC chose Mapopolis due to the product's outstanding reputation and extensive features."
