GPS: Palmtop Software launches Wireless Bluetooth GPS Receiver for TomTom

May 12, 2003 - Palmtop Software BV, a leading provider of personal navigation systems, based on Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PCs, today announces the availability of the Wireless Bluetooth based GPS receiver for TomTom Navigator 2. The solution adds further flexibility to TomTom Navigator 2 by adding the smallest and lightest GPS device on the market, which is compact enough to fit into your pocket.

"TomTom Navigator 2 already offers an affordable and practical solution to a well-known problem, how to get from A to B", said Harold Goddijn, CEO of TomTom. "The launch of TomTom's Wireless GPS receiver is the next step in the personal navigation market, adding further possibilities for use in and out of the vehicle, and for a neater look inside the car."

When the Wireless GPS receiver is used in combination with TomTom Navigator 2, it extends the capabilities of personal navigation to both the casual and professional user and creates the following possibilities:

  • Versatile personal navigation inside and outside of the car: The Wireless GPS receiver gives users the freedom to use TomTom Navigator 2 both inside and now outside of the car. In map mode, Navigator 2 and the Wireless GPS receiver can help users find their way around towns and cities on foot more easily.
  • Hassle free installation and use: Using Bluetooth technology, the Wireless GPS receiver makes TomTom Navigator 2 a neat solution. Various mounting options add flexibility and make it possible to fix it to the dashboard, windscreen or wherever is convenient in your car. Users are free to install the Wireless GPS receiver into their vehicles temporarily or permanently, depending on the required use. The receiver is powered by a rechargeable battery, which ensures five hours' continuous operation. Cables are included to recharge the battery.

The Wireless GPS receiver is also available as a standalone product and is compatible with any Bluetooth-enabled device, which then can be used in combination with GPS enabled software. Compatible devices include Sony Ericsson P800, Nokia 7650 and 3650, Sony Vaio also any Bluetooth-enabled Pocket PC or notebook.

TomTom Navigator 2 and the TomTom Wireless GPS receiver will be available from all major European retailers as a full product as of July at a recommended retail price of £349 including VAT. Also, the TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver will be available as of June as a standalone product for the recommended retail price of £249 including VAT.
