Okay - I must admit I'm addicted to Microsoft's Pocket PC platform and I'm a Microsoft MVP for Mobile Devices but I'm also addicted to GSM based wireless technologies. This means for me that I also have (and still use) non-Windows CE based cell phones. Also interesting for me are other hardware platforms for sure like the Symbian OS and even Palm's OS.
Currently, Handspring Europe is running a promotion in Europe called "Try Treo". The deal is pretty easy: Order a Handwpring Treo 260, give Handspring your Credit Card number and test it for 14 days. If you like what you got, take it and you will be charged. If you don't like it, send it back to Handspring and nothing will happens with your Credit Card account.
This was the reason for me to order a Handspring Treo 270 and within the next 14 days I will give it (the hardware) and the Palm based OS (plus Handsprings wireless extensions) a closer look which will result in a comparison between a Pocket PC Phone Edition Device and the Handspring Treo.
If you never had a Treo in your hands - like me, this is what I'm talking about:
And compared with an o2 xda it looks like this:
Beside it is interesting for me to test a a different kind of wireless it's also interesting for me to play with the Palm OS cause I never owned a Palm device. I've started with an Apple Newton in the early 90's and switched to Windows CE based handheld PCs in 1997. So it will be an interesting experience to use a PDA as a completely newbie! :-)
I tried the treo 270 two months ago. Unfortunately, it only lasted me 2 weeks before I decided to go back to the Phone and PDA combination. What bothered me most was the absence of an expansion slot. And battery life will definitely be an issue too. If you're a heavy texter (SMS), this is not the phone for you.

Hehehe... Might be the reason why the testing period is 14 days only? ;-) Anyway - I will test if for sure and will try to use as I used to use my cell phone or Pocket PC Phone Edition and at the end of the 14 days I will know how it would work for me. But interesting to see your experiences here!

I've been using a 270 for months - since they first came out in fact, and I had a 180 before that (also from day 1), and several Palms before that. While the 270 was the best yet Palm convergence device IMO, it still fell short in some key areas.
