Maybe all the bad analysts predictions and forecasts forced Andy Rubin to send one of his rare messages to the world but the Godfather of Android (and co-founder and former CEO of Danger) just tweeted that Android sees a worldwide growth of 4.4 % which results in an impressive figure that over 500,000 Android devices (smartphones and tablets) are activated every day. If you are not an Android user yet you should know that Android devices requires an activation with a Google account. While you can also use Android devices without "activating" them, most services don't work without activation. Therefore, Google should have a pretty good overview how much devices are newly activated each day (as Apple and Microsoft have too).
Looking back, half a year ago in December 2010 Rubin confirmed 300,000 Android devices per day and at Google's recent I/O conference early May 400,000 devices each day were confirmed. If true, it's definitely an impressive growth!
Quite a funny coincidence is that I've asked this morning which mobile OS the readers and followers of @theunwired use, so you might join the poll too and let us know how good Android is doing under the::unwired readers.
