Why is Windows Mobile SE not embracing the leading edge capabilities of Pocket PC devices like the "real VGA" of the Toshiba e800, and instead fcousing on the pixel doubling nonsence of SE?

That's _not_ true! SE is supporting "real" VGA! It's nothing like Nyditot or others did before and therefore the hardware requires new, "high" resolution screens like the Toshiba e800 already has.

Where have you heard SE is about pixel doubling? BTW: same for the new SE Smartphones which support half VGA = today's Pocket PC size in future!

Michael it is somewhat confusing, but the  pixel doubling (on icons)  and dialog box scaling is for backward compatibility support only for existing applications to take advantage of the HiDPI of the screens (which means smoother fonts, nicer looking icons etc). In fact, pixel doubling is really just doubling, they do use an algorith to make the scaling look cleaner.

Developers simply set a resource in their new applications to tell the O/S that they are HiDPI aware. In that case, the application is free to do anything they want with every pixel. For some applications their is virtually no work to do, but extensive for others.
