Sony Alpha Rumors has received information and photos of so called upcoming Sony "Lens Cameras", namely the DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100. As Sony Alpha Rumor noted, these "lenses" aren't normal lenses, even if they look like but they have built-in sensor, Bionz processor, WiFi/NFC wireless connections and an SD card slot. And because these lenses neither have a LCD screen nor the usual camera controls, these lenses will be used and controlled through attached smartphones or tablets; where they are mounted to. According to the info, the lenses can be magnetically attached on a smartphone and they are said to work with Android and iOS.
Sony is expected to launch two "lens-cameras" soon, the DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100. One will comes with RX100MII sensor and Zeiss lens (on the pictures it is said to be the bigger lens) while the second model will feature a 10x zoom lens with 1/2,3" 18 megapixel CMOS sensor (the image with the f/3,3-5.9 lens).
As always, price and exact release date are yet unknown but next month's IFA might be a good event for such a groundbreaking technology.
Cheers ~ Arne
