LEAKED: HTC Galaxy - a non-Phone Edition Pocket PC but with inbuilt GPS

How PDAFrance reports today, HTC is preparing the launch of a new Pocket PC (without Phone Edition) with inbuilt GPS, which would be the first GPS device from HTC itself and follows the success of other OEMs like Mitac who launched a couple of GPS enabled Pocket PCs already.

According to PDAFrance the Galaxy is a kind of an updated HTC Magician (i-mate JAM, o2 Xda mini, etc.) with approximately the same dimension.

Feature-wise, the Galaxy comes along way more updated:

  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0
  • Samsung S3C2440M CPU with 300Mhz
  • 64MB Flash ROM, 32MB SDRAM
  • 2.8" TFT LCD with 240x320 pixels
  • Integrated receiver GPS
  • Bluetooth and W-LAN 802.11b
  • Infrared IrDA and USB Slave
  • SDIO/MMC support
  • 109.7mm x 59.4mm x 17.6mm (Magician: 108.2 mm x 58 mm x 18.2 mm)

As the::unwired resources confirmed, the HTC Galaxy should become available until end of this year but will not be carried by mobile operators but distribution partners.
The retail price is expected to be less than a (non-subsidized) HTC Magician.

Cheers ~ Arne

It actually is a Phone, if you look at the PDA france site, it says "Pocket PC Phone Edition"...

What can I say? My sources confirmed that will *not* be a Phone Edition!
Well, we will see sooner or later what it will be. wink

If that's the case... we're not looking at the follow up to HTC Magician, are we?

The guys at PDa France say it is, and you kind of say that it is the heir of Magician...

AFAIK it's not the follower of the Magician (Phone Edition-wise) but targeting the very attractive PDA/GPS market instead of the other - not less - attractive PDA Phone market.

I'd say it's more gaining experience with GPS before the XDA V or VI will then have it combined with the phone part.

Look at the buttons closely and you will not see the answer and end button.  So it seems it might not be a phone at all. wink

right, i recognized the same! i think arne is right if he says it wont be a phone but just a pocket pc with gps.
therefore it's not something i'm interested in and also i'm happy with my bluetooth gps reciver anyway. no reason for an all-in-one device.

On the other hand, all-in-one devices are what we are most interested in! They should have made a GPS+PDA+Phone device like the upcoming HP messenger device. That should be a hot seller with HTC's legendary quality.
