MWC LIVE: Where is Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1?

Okay, we know that Windows Mobile 6.1 exists, we know that it's even available for some devices already, even if not officially supported but so far we haven't heard anything official from Microsoft and everybody including me expected an official announcement during this year's Mobile World Congress. Sure, around half of the new Windows Mobile devices showed here on the Mobile World Congress are running Windows Mobile 6.1 already but there was not a single official word from Microsoft on its press release.
Microsoft declined to comment the existence of Windows Mobile as well as it wasn't commenting the availability.

So the best bet is that it's already available, most likely for ODM and OEMs but for some reasons it wasn't announced today.

Cheers ~ Arne

I've had some interesting chats during MWC, and this is what I know/figured about WM 6.1.

It's finished and the final version was completed on Jan 31.

So it is shipping to vendors already, but they are not allowed to talk about it. (I got this independently confirmed by one vendor, who was surprised that I already know about the final version on Jan 31)

It was initially planned to be announced during MWC, but they(MS)'ve been afraid that they'll not be able to make it to MWC, so the decision was made in late 2007/early 2008 to postpone the announcement. And it was not enough time (especially with Experia, which is a huge win  for WM, taking the center stage) to reschedule the announcement.

WM 6.1 will be announced during CTIA wireless on April 1-3.
