Over the past two and a half years - since Android was launched - Google has shipped eight releases of Android and according to Google, there are now more than 310 Android devices around the world, of all shapes and sizes. This morning, at Google's I/O conference, the company unveiled its next major version of Android - Ice Cream Sandwich. According to Google, it's goal with Ice Cream Sandwich is to deliver one operating system that works everywhere, regardless of device. Ice Cream Sandwich will bring everything we know from Honeycomb on the tablet to the phone, including the holographic user interface, more multitasking, the new launcher and richer widgets.
It's expected that Google will release Android Ice Cream Sandwich (version number still to be confirmed) in Q4-2011 to manufactures and customers.
