OFFICIAL: HTC announces the HTC Desire Z Android 2.2 Smartphone

Following last weeks announcement of the T-Mobile G2, today HTC has also officially announced its version which is called HTC Desire Z. Designed for people constantly on the go, the HTC Desire Z makes it quick and easy to stay connected with friends on Facebook and Twitter or with colleagues and customers at work. Running on Android 2.2, the Desire Z utilize a new 800 MHz Qualcomm 7230 CPU for improved performance and battery life. The EMEA/APAC version supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/2100 MHz as well as Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, WiFi b/g/n and features aGPS, an FM radio, motion, proximity and ambient light sensor as well as a digital compass. Furthermore, the HTC Desire Z features a unique "Z hinge" that opens to reveal a 4-row QWERTY keyboard.

The HTC Desire Z's keyboard also includes a variety of keyboard shortcuts and two customizable keys for providing instant access to common functions without the need to open menus. Furthermore, the smartphone features a 3.7" WVGA capacitive SLCD touchscreen and allows 720p HD video recording with the inbuilt 5 megapixel camera with automatic flash.
At a size of 119 x 60,4 x 14,16 mm the device weights 180 g incl. the 1300 mAh Lithium-Ionen battery. The internal phone memory has a capacity of 1.5 GB ROM and and 512 MB RAM and can be expanded with microSD memory cards.

In addition to HTC Sense and today's announced HTCSense.com service, the Desire Z will also feature all Google services like Gmail, Google Talk, Maps, Android Market, Search as well as YouTube and the Desire Z will be one of the first HTC smartphones which include HTC Fast Boot, a new technology which enables people to quickly make a call or check E-Mails by shortening the time taken to complete the power-up sequence.

The HTC Desire Z will be broadly available through mobile operators and retailers across major European and Asian markets from October 2010 as well as shipping in North America later this year.
