As expected, many times rumored and (un)officially confirmed by the GCF earlier this week, HTC has finally unveiled the HTC One mini 2, the latest addition to its renowned HTC One-family of Android smartphones. Running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat with HTC Sense 6, the One mini 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core CPU at 1.2 GHz. It features a compact, yet generous 4.5" 720p HD display and an impressive and now HTC One-typical 5 megapixel front-facing camera. Like the HTC One (M8) and unlike its forerunner, the HTC One mini, the HTC One mini 2 brings the iconic metal craftsmanship and best-in-class experience of the HTC One (M8) to those in search of a "more compact model".
Inside, the One mini 2 supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, quadband UMTS/HSPA+ at 850/900/1900/2100 MHz and either quadband (EMEA) or pentaband (Asia) LTE CAT 4. Also onboard are Bluetooth 4.0 LE with aptX and WiFi a/b/g/n at 2.4 and 5 GHz as well as NFC, GPRS and GLONASS support.
With its 5 megapixel front-facing camera with BSI sensor and support for 1080p Full HD video recording, high-quality selfies are guaranteed. Re-takes won't be required, as the front camera's self-timer gives you ample time to prepare the pose before the image is captured. To give those self-portraits an element of professionalism, the HTC One mini 2 also features Touch Up for subtle beauty enhancements to smoothen the skin, eliminate red eye and adjust the contours of the face, while still looking natural. Unlike the HTC One (M8), which just introduced the UltraPixel dual-camera, the mini 2 comes with a 13 megapixel camera with BSI sensor and f/2.2 lens.
While Zoe Highlight videos are also supported, other dual-camera features like Ufocus, etc. aren't supported due to the lack of the required hardware enhancement.
Nevertheless, it wouldn't be an HTC One-series device if HTC BoomSound would be missed. Therefore it features HTC BoomSound technology, to deliver powerful, crisp and clear audio that has never been more brilliant. Equipped with the same amplifier as the HTC One (M8), the One mini 2 delivers rich tones from bass through to treble, producing high-quality, immersive sound through the dual-frontal stereo speakers.
Like the HTC One (M8), the One mini 2 is also running HTC Sense 6. Therefore it also turns the home screen into a live stream of the latest news and social updates - thanks to HTC BlinkFeed. Continuous scrolling makes it quick and simple to view different stories, keeping you up to date with the latest developments at all times.
The HTC One mini 2 will be available in EMEA and North Asia in Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver and Amber Gold from June 2014; a price wasn't announced today.
UPDATE: As we just got confirmed, HTC will rollout the One mini 2 from 30. Mai in the UK and Germany and rest of Europe will follow during June! In Germany and Austria, it will retail for 449 Euro.
Cheers ~ Arne
