Following today's earlier information that Motorola will launch its DROID Android smartphone in Europe as the Motorola Milestone, Motorola now officially announced the Milestone for Germany. Running on Android 2.0/Eclair the Milestone is powered by a 550 MHz TI CPU and indeed supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900 and 2100 MHZ. Also onboard are WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, aGPS/sGPS and a G-sensor. Neither a compass nor an FM radio are mentioned in the specs. The autofocus camera features 5 megapixel and comes with two LED flashes. Like all current Motorola Android smartphones, the Milestone also features the slide-out QWERTZ/Y keyboard.

At a size of 60x115.80x13.70 mm, the Milestone weights 165 g and features a 3.7" WVGA (480x854 pixel) touchscreen. And while it's not yet confirmed if the Milestone will feature Motorola's Moto Blur user interface, the Milestone is definitely not a Google Experience phone at all, even if it includes Google Search, Android Market, Gmail, Google Maps Mobile and GTalk nevertheless.

According to Motorola Germany, the Motorola Milestone will be initially available from O2 Germany, Vodafone Germany and The Phone House. Availability is planned for calendar week 46. Motorola's official consumer price (without a contract) is given with 500 Euro.
Motorola hasn't unveiled any further information yet about planned releases in other European countries.

Cheers ~ Arne
