OFFICIAL: Motorola unveils the MOTOSURF A3100 Windows Mobile Professional Smartphone [UPDATE]

While details and specs are still sketchy, in its CES press release, Motorola announced the upcoming launch of the MOTOSURF A3100 Windows Mobile Professional smartphone, Motorla calls a "touch tablet" with a customizable home screen which is layered on top of Windows Mobile 6.1. This customizable home screen is said to has many applications that can be accessed with the tip of a finger, a stylus or an omni-directional trackball. The home screen icons can be personalized to give 'live' feeds on weather, news, personal and work E-Mail, messaging and calendar events. WiFi and 3G connectivity make the experience seamless and fast.

Powered by a Qualcomm MSM 7201A CPU, the A3100 features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth and aGPS. The 2.8" touchscreen features QVGA only but the main autofocus camera supports 3.2 megapixel. The second, front facing VGA camera, is used for UMTS video telephony. Backed-up by 256 MB ROM and 128 MB RAM, the memory can be expanded with microSD memory cards, up to 32 GB! At a size of 110×59.7×13.7mm, the A3100 weights 119 grams.
The device is said to has a GSM talk time of up to 6.8 hours with a GSM standby time of up to 12 days.

According to Motorola's press release, the MOTOSURF A3100 will be available in multiple regions beginning in Q1 2009, including Asia and Latin while it's not yet confirmed that the A3100 will be also launched in North America or Europe.
