Definitely good news for Sony Ericsson Xperia owners came yesterday from Lund. The (still) Japanese/Swedish smartphone manufacturer confirmed on its product blog, that it plans to release Android 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades to all of its 2011 Xperia Android smartphones. These are namely the Xperia arc and arc S, Xperia_Play, Xperia neo and neo V, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active, Xperia ray as well as Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. There's only one thing which keeps me a little bit nervous, it's the way Sony Ericsson wrote it: "[...] we plan to upgrade the entire 2011 Xperia portfolio to the next version of Android known as Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich".

As we all know, plans can change, for instance because of technical difficulties, changes in interests, changes in the management, etc. but well - let us take Sony Ericsson's word for now and expect that the upgrades will be released anytime sooner or later. At the moment, Sony Ericsson is working "on merging (the) current Xperia experience with the new features in Android 4.0".

Sony Ericsson hasn't given any further details in terms of expected release dates but only said that more detailed information regarding this upgrade, timing and global availability will be communicated in due course on in products blog.

Cheers ~ Arne
