This is definitely a device to die for. I cannot possible find the right words to describe the feeling I had when I held the O2 XDA II in my hands. It was just unbelievable. Its sleek design with the familiar satin silver finish, its now bright and adjustable screen, its fast PXA263 processor, the 128MB RAM the built-in camera, Bluetooth with headset support, the MMS client, the responsiveness of WM2003.

It was just unbelievable. My good friend from O2 dropped me a message that she was going to be in the country for a while and she had a surprise for me. Well, I was able to ring her at her hotel and she said those really sweet words. "Do you want to see the XDA II?" I just couldn't believe what I just heard, luckily I was nearby and it probably didn't take me more than 5 minutes to get to the hotel.

Anyway we were at the bar to discuss some business and the XDA II. She handed it to me and wow! What can I say? It is definitely one magnificent device. The pictures posted by Arne shows how it looks, and what is that connector under the battery by the way? Well, apparently its for a piggyback module. What I was told is that there will be a piggyback module with an extended battery and a CF slot! Whoa!!! I'm loving this!

Well, I can't wait for tomorrow for another possible date with the XDA II and probably a chance to take detailed photos of it... exclusive for PPCW.Net

Carlo,

How does the size compare with the original XDA, in the pictures it seems to be a bit narrower but thicker from front to back.  What are your impressions?

Posted by Arne Hess on 24.09.03 - 21:17:44

@Chris: Well, it seemed thicker... but then again the contour might be the reason for it to feel that way...

I'll have another chance with it tomorrow... so wait for my update on it.

I'm waiting with my tongue hanging out, but am afraid of the price?  Do you know what it is?

Posted by Gio on 25.09.03 - 07:48:26

When is that coming out?

Will the XDA II support Java, i.e. can it run programs and games in J2ME?

Best regards

hi carlo!

please, just one thing > which is brightness of LCD compared to iPaq 5550?

The ipaq screens are great and one of the main iratations with my HP 928 Pocket PC Phone. I still think HP got it right with the separate processors and a covered main display - the lCD and buttons on the 928 are very handy and reduce the stupidity factor when you place a lit screen to your face. Besides screens are so easily damaged. Still amazes me that HP pulled out of pocket pc phone manufacture.  o2 xda 2 looks good but its still a bit bulky looking - pogo nVoy seems the nicest design but probably vapourware. Anyway itll be a while before the xda 2 reaches Australian shores sad

Just read on the Register today that the XDA2 will be "released within the month".

Posted by Chris on 26.09.03 - 16:07:06

So I guess that means 6 months for those of us in the States sad

Carlo . . . where's the update . . . you're killing us!

Posted by Arne Hess on 26.09.03 - 19:02:30

@Rob: At least here in Asia, we'll have to wait another month or two depending on the region.

@Venus: The nice connector at the bottom is not only for the battery and CF slot as I was told. It's also for the VGA out port.
