PHONE EDITION: Qtek to join in with the Blue Angel affair

When the initial news on the CU 928 appeared last April, a lot of Pocket PC users were once again awakened into a new era of Windows Mobile. Of course there was already news about the upcoming MPx from Motorola, but the press releases on the CU 928 came as "just launched".

This definitely meant that this device was for real and people started to comment on how much it looked like an HTC Himalaya Pocket PC Phone Edition. This was also compared to the current incarnations of the Himalaya platform namely the Xda II, the MDA II, i-Mate PPC PE , and Qtek 2020.

The first device to bear its own branding on a device similar to the CU 928 is T-Mobile with the MDA III. The MDA III is based on the HTC Blue Angel and is a GSM model. The HTC Blue Angel will yet appear under different brand names and one possible brand is Qtek.

Initial information acquired by Mobil points out that Qtek will be naming it the Qtek 9090 and sports similar hardware specifications as the MDA III, but so far, no mention was made on what OEM applications will be included in the device.

Already using an MDA II since October, I am having a very tough time deciding between the new HP iPAQ h6315 Pocket PC Phone Edition or the eagerly awaited MDA III.  I live in California, however, and and am not sure if the MDA will offer all the local usage and connection benefits that the HP is supposed to offer.

Any thoughts, comments on the above? Are there any U.S. users of the MDA/XDA II who could share their experiences with me?

Best Regards, Giacomo
