PHONE EDITION: xda system software upgrade for UK

The latest xda operating system ROM upgrade is now available from O2 UK. Please keep in mind that this update is for the UK version of the O2 xda only and will not work on other xdas like the German one nor on T-Mobile Phone Edition, so better don't try it.

The ROM update include:

  • Faster Internet access. Web surfing speeds increased by up to 33%.

  • An option for the GPRS call to be 'always on' even when the xda goes into power save mode

  • Enhanced SIM management so that SIM entries are loaded into 'Contacts' as 'mobile' numbers, meaning texts can be sent straight from your contacts list.

  • An ISDN WAP capability for faster WAP access.

What makes me really wonder is that no word was given about the PIN security problem the xda has. As you might know, or not, the xda stores the PIN in the Registry which is a real bug. Maybe it is fixed but O2 don't want to talk about it anyhow not to wake up sleeping dogs or it's still not fixed. Anyone who upgraded can bring some light into it?

Cheers ~ Arne
